OUR PATH

Our work started in Nicaragua in 1997 with partner ATDER-BL

From this first partnership we have made connections across the region and are now active in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia as well. Our initial work in the region focused on community-owned and operated micro-hydro systems - which are still active today!

Happily in the last two decades Latin America has seen huge success in advancing energy access, so our work with partners has shifted. Today, we focus on community-scale water projects as well as tackling electrification for dispersed rural communities that have been left behind.

Currently working with approximately 290 families throughout the The Awá Indigenous Territories, and Departments of Santander, Cundinamarca, Meta, Tolima, and Antioquia.

Current Focus: Biogas Digesters, Rainwater Catchment, Patio Gardens, Improved cookstoves, Productive end-use of energy

Peru

First project in: 2011

Currently working with 30+ communities in the regions of Northern Peru, Cajamarca, Puno, Lima, and the Amazon.

Current Focus: Solar Water-Pumping, Community-scale water systems, WaSH for Healthcare

Bolivia

First project in: 2017

Currently working with 4 communities in the Northwestern Amazon, Altiplano and Remote Highlands.

Current Focus: Community-scale water systems, Community-scale microgrids, Sanitation and Hygiene in Schools

In the last six years alone:

594 people reached by energy projects

Nicaragua

First project in: 1997

Currently working with rural communities in the central and northern parts of the country in the departments of Madriz, Jinotega, Matagalpa and RACCN (North Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region)

Current Focus: Micro-hydro community-scale energy systems, Household Solar, Community-scale water systems, Sanitation, Watershed Conservation, Improved cookstoves

Partners: Association of Rural Development Workers- Benjamin Linder (ATDER-BL), FEDICAMP, Cacaonica, AVODEC, ADDAC

1,794 people reached by energy projects

Ecuador

First project in: 2009

21+ communities in the north and southern regions of Esmeraldas Province (Rio Cayapas and Rio Sucio watersheds), Napo Province, and Carchi Province and neighboring communities in Nariño, Colombia.

Current Focus: Community-scale water systems, Watershed Conservation, Sanitation, WaSH Training
