Technical Training
Courses cover the technical and project implementation skills necessary for solar, micro-hydro, water distribution, and /or related appropriate technology projects in the developing world. Courses are hands-on with panels, wiring, pumps, and related equipment. Slide shows, case studies, field demonstrations, problem solving exercises, and discussions on community development issues often form the backbone of the courses. Each participant can receive a Certificate of Completion from Green Empowerment.

NGO Skills Training/Internship

Build your skills while applying your talents to Green Empowerment’s work. We develop work plans and assist participants in making themselves marketable to jobs in the non-profit sector by providing training in proposal writing, technical training, project design, budgeting, publicity, outreach, and website maintenance. Our valuable "Interns" have included previous volunteers, those making a career transition, retirees, as well as, compassionate students from the University of Portland, Portland State University, Lewis and Clark College, the University of Minnesota, Tufts University, and Stanford University.

International Placements

Help our partners by installing systems, conducting trainings, and working with villagers. Have the experience of a lifetime in the process. Short term placements can be developed for seasoned professional engineers, health practitioners, renewable energy technicians, or socially responsible citizens who work full-time and have limited vacation days. For self-initiating students and fresh graduates, outside of three month summer placements, a 6-12 month commitment is requested. We have placed an engineer from France and an engineer from Papua New Guinea, in addition to, students from Stanford, the University of Minnesota, and Humboldt State University.

College/University Partnerships
Green Empowerment is partnering with colleges and universities to explore innovative ways students can make significant contributions to the development of renewable energy and water projects. Students and faculty work as teams on feasibility studies, service projects, technology designs, and business plans. Groups gain a more complete understanding of international sustainable development through work on actual renewable energy installations with our overseas NGO partners.
